Samsung Electronics to supply $3.6 billion worth of equipment to Indian telecom companies to drive 5G adoption
South Korea's Samsung Electronics, along with Finnish telecom equipment maker Nokia and Sweden's Ericsson, have agreed to buy $3.6 billion (about 5.5 billion euros) from Indian telecom company Vodafone Idea.
On the 23rd, Vodafone Idea announced that it will receive network equipment from these three companies over a three-year period starting from the fourth quarter.
This is Samsung Electronics' first partnership with Vodafone Idea. According to industry sources, Samsung Electronics is expected to be responsible for about 20% of the total supply (about $700 million).
However, a Samsung Electronics official said, "The specific details and conditions of the contract have not yet been finalized." The contract allows Vodafone Idea to provide 4G services in the region.
"We are pleased to enter into this new partnership with Samsung," said Akshaya Moondra, CEO of the company.
We look forward to working closely with our partners as we transition into the 5G era."
