Ms. A (in her 30s), who was pregnant with twins and hospitalized in the gynecology department, complained of abdominal pain. Ms. A was 30 weeks pregnant. The obstetrics and gynecology department determined that an emergency operation was necessary and called the ambulance at 11:30 p.m.
They asked around for hospitals that could take her, but the two nearby university hospitals that could perform emergency surgery refused to take her because they did not have a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology.
Not only the medical staff, but also Mr. A's family contacted more than 70 hospitals across the country, but they were refused because "there are no medical staff available."
The decision was rejected. Eight hours later, in the early hours of the following morning, Mr. A was admitted to a hospital in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, and flew 130 kilometers to Jeonju by firefighting HYERI helicopter.
The mother has now recovered her health, but one of the twins, who was born a month early, is in need of intensive care.
