Japan, US and South Korea foreign ministers: ”Trilateral cooperation regardless of political situation”
The foreign ministers of Japan, the United States and South Korea met and emphasized trilateral cooperation regardless of the political situation of each country. They also discussed ways to respond to North Korea's disclosure of its nuclear facilities and its repeated missile provocations.
South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yol, who visited New York to attend the 79th UN General Assembly High-Level Meeting, had met with U.S. President Blinken.

"The security environment surrounding us is becoming even more severe, and the free and open international order based on the rule of law is facing increasingly serious challenges," Kamikawa said.
"This makes our strategic cooperation more important than ever," he said. "I want to further strengthen our cooperation in various areas, including dealing with North Korea."
"One of the hallmarks of the Biden administration is this incredible process of trilateral cooperation between the United States, Japan and South Korea," U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said. "We are working to address the common challenges we face and the shared goals we have set for our nations.
Given the many opportunities that lie ahead, trilateral cooperation is stronger, more effective, and more important than ever before."
"We have worked hard to institutionalize this cooperation and hope to continue that effort today," he said. "There are political shifts happening in Japan and the United States, but regardless of this, the trilateral cooperation will continue to be a trilateral effort among the three countries."
This is the eighth meeting since the inauguration of the Yoon Seok-youl administration, and the first was held in February this year during the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
