South Korea's Ministry of National Defense establishes Military Family Day...fourth Friday of September every year

The South Korean Ministry of National Defense will reflect the anniversary of Military Family Day in its unit management instructions and hold its first commemorative event on the 27th.
A related bill to establish the anniversary is also expected to be passed soon, and events jointly held by local governments and others are expected to begin next year.
Military Family Day is set to be the fourth Friday of September every year, one week before Armed Forces Day (October 1st).
The first ever "Military Family Day" commemorative event will be held to select and reward exemplary soldiers and their families, as well as host invitational commemorative events and various encouragement events.
The Ministry of National Defense explained the reason for establishing Military Family Day, saying, "We are grateful for the sacrifices and dedication that military families make together with their military personnel for the sake of national security.
In fact, many soldiers have to live far away from their families and relatives for a long period of time due to their duties in frontier areas, close-quarters military units, or deployment overseas.
Military families have to move frequently and live in poor living conditions. Children of military personnel also face inconveniences as they have to change schools frequently.
Each military branch independently treats its military families by giving them awards or sending them on trips, but the nation is still unaware of the joys and sorrows that military families must endure.
The Ministry of National Defense explained that the plan was not enough to raise awareness and understanding of the issue and to raise the pride and self-esteem of military families.
The bill passed the National Assembly's Defense Committee in a plenary session on the 25th, and remains to be discussed in the Legislation and Judiciary Committee and in the plenary session.
