Asiana Airlines to suspend hot drink service on short-haul international routes from 30th (South Korea)
Asiana Airlines will stop serving hot drinks on short-haul international routes from the 30th. This is because the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport last month instructed airlines to stop serving hot soup as a preventative measure against turbulence accidents.
The decision was made after the airline recommended suspending in-flight services such as instant noodles and tea, which are currently on sale. According to the airline industry on the 29th, the routes that were included in the suspension of services were those with flight times of over 2 hours and 30 minutes.
The 14 sections of the route are those heading to Japan, China and Taiwan, which are not connected to the airport. Passengers on these routes will now only be served cold coffee and tea.
Asiana Airlines said, "We will prevent safety accidents such as burns caused by turbulence (caused by shaking inside the aircraft)."
"As a result, we have decided to extend the measures that were implemented on domestic flights to short-haul international flights," an Asiana Airlines official said. "We have decided to change our services for the safety of our passengers and crew."
Asiana Airlines previously stopped serving hot coffee and tea to passengers on domestic flights in April last year.
On the other hand, after the previous announcement by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, many FSC and LCC airlines have been offering hot ramen as a service.
There is a trend towards reducing the provision of tea and coffee.
