President Yoon: ”If North Korea uses nuclear weapons, that will be the day that the North Korean regime ends” - Armed Forces Day
On the 1st, marking Armed Forces Day, South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol said, "If North Korea were to attempt to use nuclear weapons, it would face a decisive and overwhelming response from our military and the ROK-US alliance.
"That day will be the day that the North Korean regime comes to an end," he said. "The false peace we hope for in the goodwill of our enemies is nothing more than a mirage," he said.
"The only way to maintain peace is to strengthen our strength so that we are not underestimated by our enemies," he said. President Yoon presided over the "Armed Forces Day" ceremony, marking the 76th anniversary of the founding of the army, at Seoul Airport that day.
President Yoon said, "We are resolutely confronting the repeated threats and provocations from North Korea, and the military is carrying out the important mission of protecting the nation and its people. I thank the military for their fervent patriotism and loyalty."
"Sincerity is the solid foundation of the freedom and prosperity we enjoy today," he said. "The tanks, self-propelled guns and air defense weapons we made are being shipped across Asia to Europe and the Middle East.
He also spoke of North Korea, saying, "They are only dreaming of the succession of power, ignoring the miserable lives of the people, and are destroying us with their nuclear weapons and missiles.
"They are threatening us with low-level provocations like trash balloons and GPS-disrupting attacks, and to top it off, they are even denying unification by advocating the 'two hostile states' theory," he said.
He continued, "It is now time for the North Korean regime to break away from the delusion that nuclear weapons will protect them," and "Our government will further strengthen ROK-U.S.-Japan security cooperation based on the robust ROK-U.S. alliance."
"We will continue to work closely with the international community and further strengthen our security posture," he said.
