Presidential Office to Democratic Party: ”Unconstitutional Democratic Party...Misusing the right to request reconsideration and abusing the party chairman to bulletproof” = South Korea
On the 2nd, the Presidential Office announced that President Yoon Seok-yeol had exercised his right to request a reconsideration (veto) of the 'Special Prosecution Act for Mrs. Kim Gun-Hee', the 'Special Prosecution Act for Corporal Choi', and the 'Local Currency Act'.
"It is the fault of the opposition party, which unilaterally forced through a bill that is full of unconstitutional and illegal elements," Presidential Spokesperson Jeong Hye-jeong said at the Yongsan Presidential Delegation meeting on the same day.
"Under the Constitution of the Republic of Korea, it is the president's duty and responsibility to exercise the right to request a reconsideration of bills that are unconstitutional or illegal," he said at a briefing held in his office.
"Article 53 of the Constitution clearly states that a bill can be requested to be reconsidered by the National Assembly. The bill for the special prosecution of Marines killed in the line of duty was passed again after it had already been rejected twice," Chung said.
"The two special prosecutor bills clearly show the opposition party's intention to direct the investigation, and the special prosecutor will be appointed according to the opposition party's preferences," he added.
"In this way, they have violated the principle of separation of powers under the Constitution. There is a clear intention to undermine political neutrality and fairness and turn this into a political battle through a court of public opinion with real-time briefings," he said.
He also criticized the amendment to the Local Community Support Product Law, which the opposition party forced through, as a "local community damage coupon law."
"It will damage local autonomy," he said. "The opposition party's current position is to continue passing bills that are full of unconstitutional and illegal elements. They will induce the exercise of the right to request a reconsideration and hold a special impeachment hearing for the party leader.
He added that the number of bad laws that the opposition party has dealt with unilaterally is 24.
I want to ask them if they aren't afraid of being recorded as a 'Together Unconstitutional Party'."
