Fire at air filter factory in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea - no casualties
At 8:13 a.m. on the 3rd, a fire broke out at an air filter manufacturing factory in the Sihwa Industrial Complex in Jeongwang-dong, Siheung-si, Gyeonggi-do, and about an hour later,
The fire has been mostly contained. It was reported that it started from about 20 tons of paper, which is the raw material for the building. Although most of the building, a two-story steel-framed building with a total floor area of about 1,200 square meters, was burned, no one was injured.
No casualties were reported. At the time of the fire, Siheung City sent out a disaster message saying, "Because of the fire in Jeongwang-dong, there are concerns that harmful substances such as smoke may enter the building. Please be careful to close windows and take other precautions to prevent accidents."
Fire department officials mobilized 23 fire engines and other equipment, as well as 70 firefighters, and by 9:27 a.m., the fire had been mostly contained, with efforts underway to put out the remaining embers.
Fire department officials expect it will take a considerable amount of time to put out the remaining flames. They plan to use excavators to remove paper rolls from inside the building.
Fire authorities plan to investigate the cause of the fire once the fire has been fully extinguished.
