Lee made this suggestion in a post on his social media account that afternoon, titled "Let's embrace the will of the people by unifying Busan."
Lee said, "Political power is delegated by the sovereign and must be used solely for the benefit of the sovereign.
"Responding promptly to the demands of the people is not a virtue, but a necessary duty," he said. "The current administration, which received a harsh failing grade from the public in the general election in April, is still pursuing its own interests and disrespecting the people.
"They are betraying us day and night. This is why the public believes this by-election should be a 'second trial of the administration.'"
"What the opposition party needs to do is to faithfully prepare the tools of justice to comply with the strict will of the people," Lee said.
"With the opposition camp divided in Geumjeong-gu, Busan, they cannot create tools that meet the public's needs. There is no way to judge without the right tools," he said.
Lee said, "I propose to the Fatherland Reform Party that we unify in Busan and prepare the tools of judgment that the people want. The administration will be on its toes in the second administration judgment.
"I hope that the government will repay the people, who have suffered from the government's betrayal, with a generous unification," he added.
In the upcoming re-election for the head of Geumjeong-gu, Busan, if the Democratic Party and the Innovation Party can unify their candidates, it will mean that the opposition camp will have a single candidate, and the candidate of the People Power Party (ruling party) will be the same.
The candidates for the position of head of Geumjeong-gu in Busan are Kim Kyung-ji of the Democratic Party, Yoon Il-hyun of the People Power Party, and Ryu Jae-seong of the Fatherland Reform Party.
Candidate Ryu Teisei is running.
