Meanwhile, coal mining and cleaning, and non-metallic mineral product manufacturing, fell by 20.9% and 50.9%, respectively. Petroleum, coal and other fuel processing, and black metal products manufacturing, also fell.
The smelting and rolling processing industries both turned to losses from profits in the same period of the previous year. During the same period, the operating income of industrial enterprises of a national or larger scale increased by 2.4% to 87.1 trillion yen (approximately 1,806 trillion yen).
Looking at August alone, profits were down 17.8% compared to the same month last year.
