97 members of a Korean family in Lebanon return home safely on military transport plane
The South Korean government assisted its citizens in escaping from Lebanon, who faced hardship due to the military conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
According to the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs (equivalent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Japan), he was in Lebanon on the 5th.
The Air Force's multipurpose aerial refueling transport aircraft, the KC-330 Cygnus, carrying 96 Koreans and one family member of Lebanese nationality, departed from Beirut, Lebanon on the 4th (local time) and arrived in Sonna in the afternoon of the same day.
Prior to this, the South Korean government held an emergency economic and security council meeting on the 2nd under President Yoon Seok-yeol and decided to secure military funds for the safe withdrawal of South Korean nationals.
After ordering the immediate deployment of the military, the military transport plane and the rapid response team were hurriedly dispatched to Lebanon. The military transport plane departed South Korea on the 3rd, the day after the deployment order was given, and arrived in Beirut, Lebanon, on the morning of the 4th local time.
The flight arrived at the destination and departed Beirut on the afternoon of the 4th. The situation in the Middle East has deteriorated rapidly in Lebanon due to the recent military conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, and the flight departed on a commercial flight.
With this return, there are now around 30 Koreans remaining in Lebanon. South Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yol sent a direct email to the Lebanese foreign minister,
"We will continue to closely monitor the situation in the Middle East to ensure the safety of Korean nationals in Lebanon and other Middle Eastern countries," a Foreign Ministry official said.
"We plan to continue taking various safety measures."
