The decision to make a film was made in response to persistent requests from Japanese distributors and viewers to mark the 20th anniversary of the Japanese release of "Winter Sonata" in 2023.
In particular, since the original work was broadcast in 2002, it has maintained the number one spot in the popularity rankings of Korean TV series in Japan, beating out "Squid Game" until recently, so there are high expectations for the film adaptation of "Winter Sonata."
Director Yoon Seok-ho, who directed the original TV series and led it to box office success, will be involved in the entire production process, and will continue to convey the excitement of the original while also conveying a deeper sensibility.
It is expected to incorporate 4KHQ upscaling to achieve cinema-grade image quality, and color correction will be done on existing TV series footage to give it a film-look.
The sound quality will be high quality, with 5.1 channels, and the OST from the existing TV series will be orchestrated and re-recorded.
Meanwhile, the film "Winter Sonata" is scheduled to be released in Japan in the winter of 2025.
