Chinese woman in her 40s responsible for ”deadly wrong-way driving” on Gyeongin Expressway, leaving four dead and injured

In the early hours of the 7th, a minicar driven by a Chinese woman in her 40s was traveling the wrong way through an interchange on the Gyeongin Expressway while arriving at work, killing one person in his 70s and injuring three.
At around 5:20 a.m. on the same day, a light vehicle entered the expressway to avoid an oncoming vehicle at the Bupyeong Interchange on the Gyeongin Expressway in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon.
The incident was captured on a surveillance camera at the scene. The light vehicle did not stop despite turning on its hazard lights, and when the vehicle veered toward the exit, it attempted to turn right to merge onto the main road.
However, the car was unable to change direction and collided with another car, and the following car was also unable to stop, resulting in a catastrophic chain reaction.
The man in his 70s who was driving the truck was taken to hospital, but was confirmed dead.
The three passengers in the vehicle were also injured and are currently undergoing treatment. While the accident was being handled, traffic jams occurred on the Gyeongin Expressway heading towards Seoul for about two hours.
According to a police investigation, the Chinese woman was on her way to work at a construction site in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon when she was driving a car with a navigation system.
She said she misunderstood the directions and took the wrong road. Police have booked the woman under suspicion of causing death or injury under the Special Act on Traffic Accidents, and are currently investigating the details of how the accident occurred.
