LS Electric partners with Kyushu Electric to provide equipment for power storage systems - South Korean media
LS Electric has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Kyushu Denko, a subsidiary of Kyushu Electric Power Co., Inc. of Japan, to cooperate on the battery energy storage system (BESS) business.
LS Electric has been supplying transformers for high voltage direct current (HVDC) conversion and ring main units (RMUs) for the Kyushu Electric Power Company's Ukujima Mega Solar Project.
Kyushu Electric will be the only company in South Korea to supply such power equipment and systems. Through this partnership, Kyushu Electric will secure the land for BESS construction, as well as handle land development such as obtaining various permits and certifications.
LS Electric will handle the overall system design, electrical system coordination, integration, construction, and operation from the initial stage.
The company will manufacture and supply all solutions, including batteries and power equipment. To date, it has built a 1.4 gigawatt-hour BESS in Korea and installed numerous energy storage devices (ESs) in the country.
LS Electric's executive vice president, Cho Uk-dong, said, "Through this MOU, we will combine our know-how and technological capabilities to lead the BESS business.
"We will start by concentrating on projects in Japan, and in the long term, we are also preparing to enter overseas markets together with Kyushu Denko."
