On the 9th, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Ministry of Environment announced that detailed testing of wild bird droppings collected from the Mankoro River had revealed that they were positive for H5 highly pathogenic influenza.
The bird droppings were collected by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' Quarantine Agency on the 2nd, marking the first time highly pathogenic influenza has been detected in wild birds in South Korea in eight months, since February 6th.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has raised the influenza crisis alert level from "caution" to "serious" in accordance with its influenza emergency action guidelines. As a result, it has shortened the cycle of detailed inspections of poultry farms nationwide.
The ministry plans to strengthen quarantine measures, including issuing orders to ban free grazing. An official from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs said, "As this is a time when the risk of highly pathogenic influenza outbreaks is high, poultry farm personnel should follow quarantine rules and refrain from engaging in isolation."
"Please comply with these rules thoroughly and immediately report any suspicious symptoms, such as increased bird mortality or reduced egg production, to the quarantine authorities."
