This is the aftermath of the introduction of a reward system for capturing harmful wild animals such as wild boars to prevent damage to crops. Hunters are necessary to reduce damage to crops, but the sloppy issuance of licenses and lax management should be reformed.
According to the Ministry of Environment on the 10th, the number of Type 1 hunting license holders, which was around 15,000 before the introduction of the reward system, has more than doubled to 31,337 at the end of last year.
The government offers a 200,000 won reward for each wild boar caught. In addition to the 200,000 won reward from the government, local governments also offer a minimum of 50,000 won and a maximum of 300,000 won.
A separate reward was given, and hunters who rarely went out hunting before the reward was given now went out voluntarily. Competition to catch prey has also become fierce, and the reward has to be shared.
The number of teams that have joined the hunt has also increased. A total of 155 wild boars were captured in Yeongdong County, North Chungcheong Province, where 35 hunters are active, from January to the end of August.
The number of deer caught by mistake is also increasing. At around 11:30 pm on the 6th, a man shot a deer along a road in Yeoncheon County, Gyeonggi Province.
A hunter in his 40s was killed while out hunting by a male hunter in his 40s. The deceased hunter was not wearing a fluorescent safety vest.
On the night of July 13, a hunter in his 60s and a man in his 50s were planting bean seedlings in a bean field in Youngju City, North Gyeongsang Province.
Three people have died in similar incidents this year. According to the National Police Agency, five out of eight gun accidents last year were caused by gunmen mistaking humans for wild boars.
