The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has charged Cumberland DRW, a company specializing in cryptocurrency trading, with operating as an unregistered securities dealer.
According to the TreeNewsX account on the same day, the SEC issued an indictment targeting Cumberland DRW stating,
"Solana (SOL), Cosmos (ATOM), and Algorand (ALGO), which are handled by the Bitcoin DRW, are securities," the lawsuit said. This is the same lawsuit filed against Binance and Coinbase.
In relation to this, Cumberland said through X (formerly Twitter) that it has been discussing this issue with the SEC for the past five years, and has submitted dozens of written statements and thousands of lawsuits.
"We acquired a qualified broker-dealer in 2019 to meet the SEC's requirements," he said.
"The SEC asserted that broker-dealer licenses do not apply to anything other than Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH)," it added.
