There were 4,682 cases of unauthorized access, followed by the United States (2,392 cases) and India (1,271 cases). By type, the most common type of unauthorized access during the same period was web access (9,695 cases).
Three out of five cyber attacks were carried out via web hacking. In addition, numerous unauthorized approaches and scans for information gathering were also found.
Rep. Lee Yong-woo said, "If the Korea Meteorological Administration, which has the only weather forecasting system and meteorological data in the Republic of Korea, were to be exposed to a cyber attack,
"If this happens, it will cause great national damage," he said. "In 2023, a Chinese-made vertical wind observation device was introduced that was infected with malware, and security vulnerabilities were identified."
"The Japan Meteorological Agency owns many information devices, and although the networks are particularly separated, it also has a supercomputer that operates 24 hours a day, so there are high concerns about cyber attacks," he said.
"We need to thoroughly manage unauthorized access via IP," he emphasized. In response, a JMA official said, "After discovering the malware last year, we established our own task force and implemented network isolation and multi-layered security measures.
"We are planning to divide the security into categories," he said, adding, "We are also keeping in mind security management using artificial intelligence (AI) technology and are working to secure and implement the budget."
