A man in his 50s who murdered the woman he lived with, put her body in a suitcase, poured cement over it, and buried her in his apartment for 16 years has finally been put on trial.
The man confessed that he had gotten into an argument with the woman he was living with and that he had killed her. The crime came to light when a worker repairing a water leak discovered the travel bag containing the body.
The Changwon District Prosecutors' Office's Tongyeong Branch Criminal Division 2 announced on the 11th that it had arrested and indicted suspect A, a man in his 50s, on charges of murder and other offences.
In October 2008, suspect A murdered a woman (then in her 30s) named B, who was living with him at an officetel in Geoje, South Gyeongsang Province, and disguised the body in a travel case.
He is suspected of putting the body in a bin and then pouring cement from the roof of the residence to bury it. At the time, suspect A piled up bricks around the hiding place and poured in about 10 centimeters of cement, making it look like a normal house.
The suspect spent about eight years in the house where he committed the crimes until he was arrested in 2016 after being given narcotics.
The crime was committed in August this year by a worker who was breaking up a concrete structure to repair a water leak.
The body was discovered in a travel bag, and the body was discovered for the first time in 16 years. After that, the police set up a special investigation team and identified Mr. B through fingerprints and DNA testing that were partially left on the body.
After confirming that B was the person whose mother had reported her as missing in 2011, the police launched an investigation and arrested suspect A last month.
Suspect A admitted to the crimes during police questioning. He said he had an argument with Ms B over a sexual relationship and killed her.
The prosecutors who took over the case said that suspect A had a criminal record for drugs and was a drug addict at the time of his arrest.
In light of these points, we determined that the credibility of the confession was low and conducted a supplementary investigation. After all the drugs were discharged, we questioned Suspect A three times, and as a result, Suspect A confessed to the date, time and place of the crime.
Suspect A was arrested and indicted based on his detailed testimony, which included details of the crime, such as the method used, etc.
