Hyundai Mobis and Zeiss to jointly develop infotainment system on car windshield - Korean media
Parts manufacturer Hyundai Mobis plans to sell a "Holographic Windshield Display" (HUD) in 2027 using automotive electrical systems and optical technology.
The company has partnered with Carl Zeiss, a German optical equipment manufacturer, to develop HUD technology. HUDs turn the windshield of a car into a transparent display, allowing users to check various information and enjoy music, videos, and other content.
This technology allows drivers to enjoy the infotainment functions of the car. Transparent display technology also ensures driving safety by allowing drivers to see all information at once without moving their eyes too much.
Its features include good visibility for the driver and passengers, and the fact that there is no need to operate various devices installed in the driver's seat. Hyundai Mobis has developed the core technology, a car projector.
The company plans to supply 3D projectors that utilize lenses and reflectors to project content onto a transparent display. The light from the projector is projected onto a transparent glass window, allowing the content to be clearly reflected.
To achieve this, a thin, transparent film with holographic technology is required, and Carl Zeiss plans to develop and supply a film that utilizes optical technology.
The two companies have already begun advanced technology development.
