Seven years later, Meng Wan was living as a caretaker for Xu Zhiyang and was taking care of his wife, Gu Manshu. One night, Meng Wan noticed Lin Rulan standing at the well.

In order to fulfill Gu Manshu's will, Meng Wan married Xu Zhiyang, Gu Manshu's real sister.
She decided to become the wife of the late Emperor Zheng (Ye Zixin). Taking a carriage, Meng Wan visited Lin Rulan's tomb in the mountains. After seven years, Meng Wan finally finished it all and married Lin Rulan.
