Kim Jong Hoon has given this recent update not long after his controversial drunk driving incident in December last year. At the time, Kim Jong-hoon caused an accident while driving drunk near the Southern Circular Road in Ilwon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The police demanded a sobriety check three times, but he eventually refused, and was suspected of refusing to take a sobriety test under the Road Traffic Act. The driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries in the accident and was charged with fatal injury under the Traffic Accident Disposal Encouragement Act.
The court subsequently granted a summary order to Kim Jong Hoon for KRW 10 million. A summary order is a procedure for levying fines and penalties without a formal trial in cases where the charges are relatively minor, and the decision was confirmed without Kim Jong-hoon appealing.
Kim Jong-hoon has shown a ‘my way’ without any awareness of public opinion in South Korea. Although there is no specified period of time for a drunk-driving restraining order, Kim Jong-hoon has been criticised for his lack of remorse by continuing his social networking activities, travelling abroad and holding fan meetings.
This is not the first time Kim Jong-hoon has driven under the influence. He already had his licence revoked in July 2011 on suspicion of drink-driving. In 2019, Kim Jong-hoon was also enveloped in a ‘personal life stir’ related to a former boyfriend.
