NCSoft to split up company and offer voluntary retirement amid poor performance in South Korea

NCSoft, a major game developer, held an extraordinary board meeting and decided to establish four new subsidiaries through corporate division.
The company will establish a development structure to strengthen the development of artificial intelligence (AI). This will aim to maximize the creativity and initiative of its subsidiaries. The new company will consist of three game development studios and one company specializing in AI technology.
The independent game development studios are Studio X (tentative name), which is developing the role-playing game (RPG) "Throne & Liberty," and Prototype, which is developing the shooting game "Prototype."
The three companies are Studio Y (tentative name), which is developing the strategy game "Takutan: Knights of the Guards," and Studio G (tentative name), which is developing the strategy game "Takutan: Knights of the Guards."
In addition, NC Research, which conducts research and development of AI, was split off to establish NC AI, a company specializing in AI.
The new companies will promote the development of new businesses through AI technology in game development. The new companies are scheduled to be split off on February 1, 2025.
The company will end or scale back some of its development projects as part of its selection and concentration strategy. It will also reallocate personnel and encourage voluntary retirement.
