President Yoon sends message to South Korean people during visit to Beomeosa Temple
South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol said on the 22nd that he would fully resume his duties, saying, "Although we are facing many difficult circumstances, I will continue to work for the country and its people without looking back."
President Yoon also visited Beomeosa Temple in Busan's Geumjeong District on the same day, where he expressed his determination to "move forward even if stones are thrown at us" at a meeting with temple officials.
Upon arriving at Beomeosa Temple, President Yoon offered incense at the incense burner in the main hall and said, "I worked in Busan 20 years ago. Even after I left Busan, I have visited this place many times.
Afterwards, he took the umbrella and went to the head priest's room together with Monk Jeong-oh and Monk Jeong-yo, who were both abbots, and had a deep conversation with them.
"His loyalty to the people, not to people himself, and his determination to become president despite the difficulties he faced gave hope to many Koreans," said Monk Jeong Oh at the event.
"It is unfortunate that the national finances are being used excessively and that we are having difficulties in running the country," he said.
President Yoon responded by saying, "I have been encouraged by the many teachings I have received from Beomeosa Temple in order to bring the country back to normal, and I hope that this country will stand upright."
"I am grateful that you have shown that you will not give in even in difficult situations. There are things in life that stay with us and shake us up, but
"Rather than being shaken from the outside, we should not allow ourselves to be shaken," he said. "Having the mindset of occasionally emptying ourselves and filling it with new things will be useful in running the nation."
He also wrote, "Whenever you face difficulties in your work, please refer to these words and overcome them wisely," along with a plaque reading "Patience (to wait patiently)" and "Just the country."
"I have a single heart to love the people," and "I have a single heart to wish for the happiness of the people," he said. President Yoon then took a commemorative photograph with the two monks before leaving the temple.
Beomeosa Temple is one of the three major temples in the Yeongnam region, along with Haeinsa Temple in Hapcheon and Tongdosa Temple in Yangsan, and was designated as a national memorial facility last year along with Tongdosa Temple.
This is the second time a sitting president has visited Beomeosa Temple since former President Lee Seung-man.
