A woman in her 20s who caused a collision due to drunk driving and a man in his 30s who lied about being the driver were arrested in court. On the 27th, the Incheon District Court issued a criminal complaint against the perpetrator for drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act.
The police announced that a 28-year-old woman, Ms. A, who was indicted without detention for aiding and abetting escape, was sentenced to eight months in prison. In addition, three acquaintances of Ms. A, who were indicted without detention for aiding and abetting drunk driving under the same law and helping the perpetrator escape, were sentenced to eight months in prison.
The 0-year-old male, Mr. B, was sentenced to six months in prison. Both were arraigned in court. Mr. A stole Mr. B's car at around 8:50 a.m. on August 19 last year in the parking lot of a low-rise apartment complex in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon.
He was put on trial for allegedly driving a car for about 10 meters and crashing into another parked car. Mr. A's blood alcohol content was 0.048%, exceeding the license suspension limit.
Mr. B, who was a passenger in the car, falsely stated to the police who were dispatched after receiving the report that he had been driving.
Person A and Person B were drinking together, and Person B allowed Person A to drive his car.
As a result, Mr. B was charged with aiding and abetting the escape of a criminal and aiding and abetting drunk driving. Mr. A had also been fined 8 million won (approximately 880,000 yen) a year prior to the incident for drunk driving.
The court pointed out that "Mr. A had been fined for drunk driving in the past, but he repeatedly committed the same crime," and that "he was unaware that Mr. B was pretending to be the driver.
"The crime is of a low quality and the guilt is very heavy because he assisted in the crime while also being a perpetrator in the crime," he said.
