US President Joe Biden has appointed Binance executive Tigran Ghanbarian as Nigeria's president.
On the 29th (local time), President Biden expressed his gratitude for the release of Nigeria's Bola Tinubu.
"I would like to express my gratitude to the President of Nigeria for facilitating the humanitarian release of Tigran Gambarian, a U.S. citizen and former law enforcement officer," he said in a phone call with President Tinubu.
Ganbarian, a Binance executive and special agent for the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS), has been in the hospital for about eight months since February, along with news of his deteriorating health.
He was detained in Nigeria for months, but was allowed to leave on the 23rd of last month. Prior to this, Nigerian authorities had been investigating Binance's activities and suspicious financial flows at the exchange.
They detained Gambarian and his colleague, Nadeem Anjarwalla, who entered Abuja on February 26 to discuss the matter.
Anjarwala fled custody to Kenya in March, but Gambarian remained in custody on charges of tax evasion and money laundering.
Nigerian authorities dropped tax evasion charges against Gambarian and Anjarwala in June and money laundering charges in October. A spokesman for the Binance executives' families said
