”What does a woman know?” North Korean resident who criticized Kim Yo-jong goes ”missing”
A resident who criticized Kim Yo-jong, the first vice director of the Workers' Party of Korea and the younger sister of North Korean Chairman of the State Affairs Commission Kim Jong-un (General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea), was arrested and her family is also missing.
On the 4th, Daily NK, a North Korea-focused media outlet, quoted a source as saying, "Two residents of Haeju City, South Hwanghae Province, who criticized Kim Yo-jong, were arrested by security forces.
"Recently, there have been cases of people being arrested by the North Korean government and their families suddenly going missing," the source said. According to the source, the two residents of Haeju City were arrested in mid-last month at Kim Yo-jong's Pyongyang desert.
The two men were arrested by the National Defense Agency after making critical remarks about Kim Yo-jong's speech on the incident.
"Why are you being so pushy and making such a fuss?" and "The people are living in such a difficult situation, shouldn't we be thinking carefully about the country's economic situation and providing support?" he was quoted as saying.
They also expressed dissatisfaction with the North Korean authorities' decision to remove the concept of "unification." They said, "For this country to quickly perish, war must break out. If war breaks out, the people will die.
"Everyone will flee to South Korea or China," he said, adding that with the concept of unification gone, "our hope has disappeared as well."
The two are close friends and have spoken out against the North Korean authorities.
It is believed that another resident heard the conversation and reported it to the Security Department, which led to his arrest. The source said, "Since then, it has become unclear whether the family is alive or dead, and the residents are feeling anxious."
He added that the residents' comments were recorded in detail in the Security Agency's report, and that "residents who were close to the families of the two men seem to be worried that the virus will spread to them as well."
