米韓が共同開発したコロナグラフを打ち上げ、ISSでの任務遂行へ=韓国
US, South Korea wrap-up party for jointly developed coronagraph to carry out mission on ISS - South Korea
The Korea Astronomical Institute, which is under the Korea Space Agency, announced that the Coronagraph (CODEX), which it developed together with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), was launched at 11:29 a.m. (local time) on the 5th by the US space giant SpaceX.
The company announced that it had completed the wrap-up party for CODEX on the PaceX rocket "Falcon 9." After the wrap-up party, it is expected to take about a week for the satellite to be installed on the International Space Station (ISS).
It is expected to dock with the ISS about 13 hours after the wrap-up party, and then be placed on the ISS's Express Logistics Carrier 3 (ELC-3) using the robotic arm.
ODEX will observe for up to 55 minutes out of the 90-minute orbital period of the ISS. CODEX will not only measure the corona, but also its temperature and speed, which were previously only observable in limited quantities, and produce 2D images.
The project will conduct research to solve difficult problems in solar research, such as the heating of the corona and the acceleration of the solar wind.
CODEX mission execution and control is carried out by NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center.
The institute plans to conduct monitoring based on the information obtained from this.
