South Korean president seeks to strengthen ties with NATO in phone call with Secretary General
South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol held a telephone conversation with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on the 6th to discuss North Korea's dispatch of troops to Russia and its involvement in the Ukraine war.
President Yoon said that a South Korean delegation will visit Ukraine after NATO and the European Union to discuss countermeasures against Russian-North Korean military cooperation.
President Yoon conveyed to Secretary-General Rutte that he had held talks with the Krajina authorities and that he was considering sending a special envoy from Ukraine to Korea. President Yoon said that he plans to work closely with NATO in order to advance talks with Ukraine.
Rutte also warned of the possibility of North Korea joining the war in Ukraine and warned of Russia's invasion and military ties with North Korea.
He stressed the need for South Korea and NATO to strengthen solidarity with countries that share the same values in order to deal with security crises through joint military cooperation. He also called for the creation of a special task force to promote cooperation between NATO and the EU.
The call was the third since Secretary-General Rutte took office, and was also the third of its kind in the country.
He emphasized that while considering countermeasures against the military ties between Russia and North Korea, Japan intends to cooperate with the international community in firmly responding to North Korea's provocations.
