On the same day, President Yoon posted on Twitter, "Congratulations! Under the strong leadership shown so far, the future of the ROK-US alliance and the United States will shine even brighter.
I look forward to our continued close cooperation," he wrote. Trump declared victory at his home in Palm Beach, Florida, the day after the election, and many U.S. media outlets concluded that he had won the presidential election.
President Yoon also sent congratulations to Senator Andy Kim, who became the first Korean American to be elected to the US Senate.
"I would like to offer my heartfelt congratulations to Senator Kim for becoming the first Korean American to serve in the Senate. Senator Kim's election is a great honor for all Koreans," President Yoon said.
"You are an inspiration to society. I wish you the best of luck as a senator," he said on Twitter. Senator Kim is running as the Democratic candidate from New Jersey.
He ran in the presidential race and was reported to have won with 53.1% of the votes with 89% of the votes counted, beating Republican candidate Curtis Basho.
