Former police chief dismissed in connection with Itaewon incident in South Korea
In the Itaewon crowd incident that occurred two years ago in South Korea, the inappropriate response to the incident led to the former Yongsan Police Station Chief Lee Im-jae and former 112 General Situation Room Chief Seo, who were sentenced to prison in the first trial.
On the 11th, the National Police Agency announced that the Central Disciplinary Committee held a meeting last month decided to dismiss Lee and Song. The National Police Agency informed the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency of this fact.
Meanwhile, at a sentencing hearing in September, the Seoul Western District Court sentenced Lee to three years in prison and Song to two years in prison on charges of professional negligence resulting in death and injury.
The ruling stated, "The defendants should have anticipated the accident well in advance and should have prepared human and material resources to take countermeasures.
However, they neglected Itaewon with a complacent attitude, which resulted in tragic consequences."
