Trump for a "second chance" at freedom.
Silk Road, currently serving a life sentence in federal prison,
Ross Ulbricht, founder of the social networking website X (formerly Twitter), said on the 12th, "After Trump's election, I can finally see the light at the end of my prison life."
He was convicted in 2015 on money laundering, computer hacking and drug trafficking conspiracy charges and sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Ulbricht opened the Silk Road marketplace in 2011, facilitating the sale of drugs and other illegal products and attracting U.S. authorities' attention.
The FBI arrested Ulbricht in 2013 and shut down the platform. He is currently incarcerated in a U.S. prison in Tucson, Arizona.
When Trump served as US president from 2017 to 2021, Ulbricht's sentence was not commuted and he was forced to resign from his position as the founder of Silk Road after losing the 2020 election to Joe Biden.
Despite calls from the founder's advocates, no commutation was given, but Trump promised at the Freedom National Convention in May that he would "guarantee Ulbricht's freedom from day one."
Many cryptocurrency and blockchain advocates have called for every US president to pardon Ulbricht after he is convicted, but some have said they believe Trump should pardon him.
Trump reiterated the pledge in social media posts before the presidential election, but has been skeptical about whether he will keep his promise to Le Claude's founder.
According to ct, Trump only fully or partially fulfilled about 27% of his campaign promises during his first three years in office.
