Unauthorized dumping of garbage by hikers on Hallasan Mountain in Jeju Island has become a major problem. Yang Yong-soo, a Jeju provincial assemblyman, said at the 433rd Provincial Assembly meeting on the 13th that the problem was solved by the illegal dumping of garbage by hikers on Hallasan Mountain in Jeju Island.
At the next regular meeting of the Culture, Tourism and Sports Committee, 14 photos were released showing piles of garbage around the wooden deck at the top of Hallasan Mountain.

There are piles of trash, such as candy bags, presumably left behind by hikers. Rep. Yang said, "Unlike other famous mountains in the region, the summit of Hallasan is well maintained with a wooden deck."
He pointed out, "It looks good, it's safe, and it looks nice at first glance, but in reality the top of Hallasan is this bad."
He also said, "We cannot discuss whether or not to remove wooden decks due to safety issues.
"However, because there is a wooden deck, climbers stay at the summit for a long time and litter everywhere," he said.
He also said, "At the very least, immediate measures are needed to prevent eating and drinking on the summit of Hallasan Mountain."
"In the future, we must definitely consider ways to work with the people of Jeju to clean up the environment on Mount Hallasan," he emphasized.
