"The Republic of Korea was built on the sacrifice and dedication of our forefathers who died for our country," Choo wrote on his Facebook page that morning.
"To mark the 85th anniversary of the Day of Our Martyrs, 33 people, including Heo Dae-seop, who participated in the armed independence movement, was arrested and died in prison, and was awarded the Independence Merit Award.
"I will do my best to make the Republic of Korea a free and prosperous country that they dreamed of," he said. He also said, "The National Cemetery in Daejeon will house the memorial service for their descendants and their graves.
There is a road called "The Road Where Wishes for Independence Come Together" that has the names of 6,478 people who contributed to independence. We, as their descendants, should remember each and every one of the heroes who died for our country and live their spirit.
He continued, "The national character of a country depends on who the country and its people remember," and added, "The power of the people and the Yoon Seok-yeol government are willing to sacrifice themselves for the country and live a benevolent life."
"We will remember the dedication and sacrifice of all those who contributed to independence, including the martyrs who died for our country, and we will ensure that we do not cut corners in providing appropriate honorifics and support for the families of those who died."
Prior to this, Han Ji-ah, Chief Spokesperson for the People's Power, also commented on the same day, "We will not skimp on the treatment of the martyrs so that their dedication will not go to waste.
We will make sure that no inconvenience is caused," he emphasized.
