”It looks strangely similar”... Seoul Mayor Deep Feik's video causes the meeting room to erupt in laughter... Why?
Seoul Mayor Oh Sehun has been transformed into a handsome actor in his 30s using DeepFeiq (fake videos, audio, and images created using AI technology).
On the 19th, Seoul City Council member Yoon Young-hee (People's Power Party), who took the podium as a questioner at the regular Seoul City Council meeting, said that there has been an increase in crimes recently committed by Deep Feik, who is posing as a local council member.
He mentioned that he is currently working on the development of DeepFeiK technology and released a video of DeepFeiK created using the face of Mayor Wu. He briefly explained the potential of DeepFeiK technology and at the same time, he also made people aware of its dangers and seriousness.
When Councilman Yoon used a mobile phone app to superimpose the face of Mayor Oh with a foreign actor's, everyone in the meeting room burst into laughter.
Mayor Wu also smiled and said, “It looks strangely similar.” Councilman Yoon pointed out, “I made this video in less than a minute, it was free and very easy.”
In response, Mayor Oh said, "Seoul City introduced an AI program to capture deep-coverage videos for the first time at the Digital Sexual Crime Center, and the results have exceeded our expectations."
"Until now, people had to deal with it manually, and even if they deleted it, it would keep coming back like a cockroach, but now AI is able to delete a large amount of Deep Fei videos.
"We will continue to make efforts to thoroughly protect human rights, as the social and psychological damage suffered by victims is severe," Mayor Kure said.
On the 17th, the National Police Agency announced that 30 lawmakers from across the country, including Seoul, Incheon, Busan, Gwangju, and Daegu, had sent threatening messages using DeepFei videos.
The photos used in the illegal composite photos were ID photos of lawmakers that were posted on the internet, including on the parliament's website.
The emails also contained threatening messages such as "We have evidence of your crimes" and "Do you know what kind of impact this will have on your political activities?"
The sender of the email offered to send $50,000 worth of cryptocurrency via QR code in exchange for deleting the illegally edited photo.
A police source said, "We plan to have local police, including the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Cyber Crime Investigation Unit, investigate the case."
