Korean tourism shifts from ”big cities” to ”medium-sized cities” and ”small cities” - Korean reports
It became clear that the way Koreans travel to Japan is digging deeper into every nook and cranny, moving from "big cities" to "medium-sized cities" and even "small cities."
On the 19th, South Korea's major OTA (Online Travel Agent) "Yogiote" reported that after analyzing overseas accommodation reservation data for the end of the year, Fukuoka
More travelers are heading to cities they have never been to before, such as Takamatsu, instead of famous tourist destinations such as Osaka, and the areas where people check in have become much more diverse.
Yogiote looked into the reservation data for Japanese accommodations from the 23rd to the 31st of next month and found that there are about 71 areas where tourists will check in during this period.
This is 1.6 times more options than the 44 available in the same period last year.
Looking at the top 10 rankings, many of the cities were new. The most notable cities that saw a big increase in popularity compared to the end of last year were Kumamoto and Takamatsu.
"Matsuyama" had no demand last year, but has become a new popular city this year. Matsuyama, which had demand last year, has seen an even greater increase in tourists this year, with the number of reservations increasing by about four times.
This is thought to be the result of an active increase in routes and improved access since the COVID-19 pandemic.
