On the 20th, the 12th Criminal Division of the Gwangju District Court (Chief Judge Park Jae-seong) issued a criminal complaint against Mr. A, who was indicted on suspicion of fraud (Act on Aggravated Punishment of Certain Crimes).
He was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended for three years, and ordered to perform 120 hours of community service. Mr. A, who worked as a team leader at Big Hit Music, the management office of BTS, left the company in June last year.
The suspects are accused of deceiving victims out of 576 million won (approximately 64.2 million yen) over a total of 17 days at their headquarters in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, pretending to be running a BTS member goods business.
A said, "BTS members will be doing solo activities before they enlist, and we are soliciting investments for merchandise to be distributed to fans at that time," and it was revealed that he committed fraud.
The court said, "The crime of using his title as a team leader at a well-known company to embezzle a large amount of money under the pretext of business investment is serious, but considering that he paid back more than 600 million won in ex-gratia to the victim, we decided to give him a suspended sentence."
The court ruled that the matter should be delivered.
