Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung appeals first-instance ruling in case of violation of Public Offices Election Act (South Korea)

Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung has appealed the ruling in the first instance of a violation of the Public Offices Election Act. According to legal circles on the 21st, Lee's side filed a notice of appeal with the Seoul Central District Court.
Prior to this, the 34th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court, which handled the first instance of the case, sentenced Lee, who was indicted on charges of publishing false facts under the Public Offices Election Act, to one year in prison with two years of probation on the 15th.
The court ruled that the late Kim Moon-gi, former head of the Seongnam Urban Development Corporation's Development Department 1, had said, "I did not play golf with Kim Moon-gi during my overseas business trip," and that he had been involved in a golf game with Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province.
The ministry acknowledged that all statements to the effect that the preferential change in use of the Korea Food Research Institute's site in Baekhyun-dong was made under pressure from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport were false statements.
However, the statement that "I didn't know Kim Moon-gi" cannot be seen as a denial of the relationship, and the court found him not guilty based on the content.
The appeal is expected to be assigned to one of the Seoul High Court's second, sixth, or seventh divisions, which handle election cases.
