Tada to sue Kakao Mobility for violation of Fair Trade Act and Personal Information Protection Act, etc. (South Korea)
Tada, a ride-hailing service, plans to file a lawsuit against rival Kakao Mobility with the Korea Fair Trade Commission for allegedly violating the Fair Trade Act.
In the case of violations of the Act on Promotion of Information Network Utilization and Protection of Information (Information and Communications Network Act) and the Personal Information Protection Act, the company will report such violations to investigative authorities after internal review.
Tada will launch the beta service of its large taxi calling service "Tada Next" in November 2021, and will officially launch the service in 2022.
The driver's membership period is three years, and their contracts will begin to expire on November 25th. In response, Kakao Mobility is encouraging its non-paying drivers who still have time left on their contracts to switch to its own company.
Tada claims that Kakao Mobility, which has a market share of over 96%, is luring drivers by offering them favorable terms through phone calls and messages.
The court believes that the practice of collecting personal information, such as contact details, without the consent of users and offering excessive benefits to attract and recruit competitors' connections violates the Personal Information Protection Act and the Personal Information Trading Act.
Meanwhile, Kakao Mobility claims that it was a normal consultation and sales activity in response to inquiries about joining from private taxi drivers.
They allegedly gathered information using lists that they had obtained legally through the following channels.
