Seoul city to start early morning autonomous bus service, launch three new routes next year (South Korea)
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it will begin operating an "Early Morning Accompanying Autonomous Bus" on the 26th. The route will connect Dobongsan Station Metropolitan Transfer Center and Yeongdeungpo Station on weekdays.
The vehicle will operate under the name "A160," combining the number "160" with "A (Autonomous)," which stands for autonomous driving.
The A160 departs from Dobongsan Regional Transfer Center at 3:30 a.m. and heads to Jongno, Yoi
The bus travels over a 25.7 km stretch with 87 stops, passing through Yeouido Transfer Center and continuing to Yeongdeungpo Station.
The bus information terminals (BIT) installed at bus stops provide information on the arrival time and available seats for the A160.
For safety reasons, passengers must be seated while boarding the bus, so if there are no seats available, they cannot board. For this reason, passengers must check the status of their buses in real time using the LEDs (light emitting diodes) installed on the front of the bus before boarding.
Passengers will need to check for available seats using the "BIT" or "Seat Indicator" to check for seat availability. For the time being, fares are free. The city plans to make the service paid in the second half of 2025 after confirming stable operation. The fare will be 12
The fare is 100 won (about 131 yen). The city plans to continue expanding the routes of the autonomous buses in the early morning. In 2025, the buses will be operated from Sanggye to Express Bus Terminal, Geumcheon to Seoul Station, and Eunpyo Station.
The plan is to open three new lines between Eunpyeong and Yangjae stations, expanding the network to 10 lines.
