A man in his 20s who broke into his ex-girlfriend's home and attempted to kill her multiple times by brandishing a blunt object has been sentenced to prison.
According to the Korean legal community on the 24th, the Seoul Western District Court arrested and indicted him on charges of attempted murder and special trespass.
Defendant A (28) was sentenced to 12 years in prison and the tools of the crime were confiscated. Defendant A broke into the home of his former girlfriend B in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul at around 4 a.m. on May 18 this year.
Defendant A is suspected of breaking into the house and striking B several times in the head with a blunt object he had prepared in advance, in an attempt to kill him. Defendant A was in a mental state where his debts had increased due to failed investments and his relationship with his family had deteriorated.
The investigation revealed that the defendant committed the crime out of a feeling of betrayal, as B, whom he had relied on, had broken up with him. On the day of the crime, defendant A confirmed that the lights were on in B's house.
After that, he sent a false message to B on his mobile phone saying, "The parcel has arrived, so please receive it," and tricked B into coming out of his house. Then he waited in front of the entrance.
Defendant A hit Mr. B on the head with a blunt object several times when he opened the door. After that, when Mr. B regained consciousness and entered his house to call the police, he again swung the blunt object several times at him and asked him to call an ambulance.
B also refused the request. B regained consciousness and was finally able to call an ambulance and receive first aid. As a result of the assault by her former boyfriend, B suffered a skull fracture that will take five weeks to heal and a bone fracture that will take six weeks to heal.
The victim sustained injuries including a broken finger. The court stated, "Looking at the motive, preparation, method, and cruelty of the crime, the crime is extremely serious," and added, "The victim desperately tried to defend himself against the attack and fortunately,
Although it was an unsuccessful attempt, considering the tools used by Defendant A and the extent of the injuries sustained, there was a possibility that the victim could have lost her life."
"The victim suffered extreme mental and physical pain and continues to suffer from long-term aftereffects.
"There is a high possibility that the victim will be punished. The victim and her family want severe punishment, as they have not been able to get forgiveness from the victim," he said, explaining the reason for the sentence. During the trial, defendant A made a criminal deposit of 10 million won (approximately 1.09 million yen). However, Ms. B expressed her intention not to accept the deposit.
This did not affect the verdict.
