韓国外務省が駐韓日本大使館に “佐渡金山”「遺憾」表明…「召致」ではなく「接触」
South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses ”regret” over ”Sado Gold Mine” to Japanese Embassy in South Korea... ”Contact”, not ”summon”
The South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its regret for the first time to the Japanese side regarding the Sado Gold Mine Memorial Ceremony. However, this is not a "summon" of the nature of a diplomatic protest.
It seems inevitable that criticism will be raised that this form of “contact” is “more passive than when the Japanese side expressed regret.”
On the 26th, the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs told reporters, "On the previous day (25th), Ministry officials contacted the Japanese Embassy in South Korea and announced that they would notify the Japanese Embassy of their intention to hold talks with the Japanese Embassy in South Korea in response to the attitude shown by Japan during the South Korea-Japan discussions regarding the memorial ceremony."
"Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials will continue to communicate closely to ensure that this issue is managed as an individual case and does not escalate into unnecessary conflict," the statement continued.
Meanwhile, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi said at a regular press conference the previous day, "It is regrettable that the South Korean side did not participate (in the Sado Gold Mine memorial ceremony)."
