38 accidents reported in Seoul after falling and colliding amid worst snowfall in history
As record-breaking snowfall hit the Seoul area, there were a series of snow-related traffic accidents and fallen trees along the roads. According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, as of 5 p.m. on the 27th, there were a total of 38 snow-related accidents.
Specifically, there were 27 cases of roadside trees falling over due to the weight of the snow, eight traffic accidents due to slipping, one construction site collapse, and two power outages.
Snow began falling in Seoul early that day, accumulating and reaching 26.7cm in Gwanak and 18.9cm in Gangbuk as of 4 p.m.
In response, Seoul City issued a two-stage emergency snow removal order starting at 7 a.m. that day together with the district and related agencies.
In addition to clearing snow from sidewalks and alleyways, one dangerous tree was removed and the branches of 26 trees were pruned.
The government has requested that all electric power companies and communications companies take measures to prevent snow from building up on power and communications lines. The snowfall in the Seoul metropolitan area is expected to continue until the 28th.
