- This is a follow-up measure to the phone call between the Ukrainian and Russian leaders. President Yoon welcomed the special envoys, headed by Defense Minister Umerov, and said, "We will respond to security threats posed by North Korea's dispatch of troops to Russia and other military cooperation between Russia and North Korea."
"I hope that South Korea and Ukraine will take effective measures to deal with this issue," said Shin Won-sik, the presidential secretary for national security, after visiting President Yoon.
He met with Russian Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun and discussed cooperation between the two countries. Umerov said, "We will actively explore cooperation options with South Korea in response to the increasing sophistication of Russian-North Korean military cooperation.
"I visited South Korea at the direction of President Zelenskyy, who asked me to cooperate with him," he said. "I have been working through various channels to strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
"I am pleased that communication and cooperation is taking place," he said. "The various forms of support from the Korean government are of practical use to the Ukrainian people," he said.
He expressed his gratitude for the close solidarity. He also explained the recent situation in Ukraine and the North Korean troops dispatched, saying, "In order to respond to an unprecedented crisis, Ukraine is cooperating with NATO and the EU.
"We are expanding security cooperation with major countries around the world, including member states of the European Union," he said, adding, "I hope to strengthen various forms of cooperation with South Korea in the future."
The South Korean and Ukrainian sides agreed on the same day to continue sharing information on North Korea's dispatch of troops to Russia and the transfer of weapons and technology between Russia and North Korea, and to cooperate with friendly countries.
