On the 27th, JTBC's "Case Leader" aired the story of a man in his 20s, Mr. A, whose wife stole all of his assets.
In addition to Mr. A, there are three other victims, but the investigation has not progressed because the investigative authorities have said it is difficult to consider them as "fraud" victims. According to Mr. A, in July last year, he met his wife, Ms. B, through an acquaintance.
The couple had a wedding ceremony. At the time, B asked her "Are you dating with the intention of getting married?" two weeks after they met, and within a month, he proposed living together and married her. B had also paid for her father's legal expenses before the marriage.
After that, Mr. B forced Mr. A to lend him 10 million won (about 1.1 million yen) because he wanted to have a lavish wedding.
However, he did not invite his parents to the actual wedding ceremony because they divorced when he was young, and only three of his acquaintances attended. Even so, Mr. B brought all the wedding gifts.
However, the marriage registration was postponed for several days. After that, B gained control of A's finances. B told A, "From now on, I will be in charge of your salary and will pay you 300,000 won (approximately 32,703 yen) each.
I'll give you some pocket money," Mr. B said, and handed his wife a bank account and a mobile phone with a certified certificate installed, then activated the new phone.
However, after Ms. B became pregnant, her attitude changed drastically. Mr. A said, "After I became pregnant, we started fighting. My wife
"But she said, 'I can't raise the child. I'm having an abortion,'" she said, adding, "I was against it, but she ended up having an abortion, and we ended up breaking up after that."
A panicked Mr. A checked his account on the advice of a friend.
A said, "I didn't have any savings, and it seems that my wife withdrew all of her loans from the bank and used them." A's bankbook showed a record of B transferring money to a fictitious account.
The amount of money stolen in this way amounted to about 77 million won (about 8,394,634 yen) in the form of loans, wedding gifts, and salaries.
However, there were other victims besides A. B had a former husband whom she had registered marriage with when she was in her 20s, and had had two boyfriends before that. The former husband told JTBC, "It all started with me.
"I gave him all the money I earned, but he gaslighted me and drove me crazy," she said, while her ex-boyfriend said, "I wanted to marry him, but after I lent him money, he cheated on me openly."
Her husband suffered losses of approximately 7 million won (approximately 760,000 yen), her former boyfriend 11 million won (approximately 1.2 million yen), and her ex-boyfriend 20 million won (approximately 2.2 million yen).
In the end, Mr. A filed a lawsuit against Mr. B on suspicion of fraud, but the police told Mr. A, "It is difficult to see this as fraud because they are in a common-law marriage and he handed over his financial rights to her."
Mr. A said, "In the first place, the woman approached him with the intention of exploiting his assets, so it was not a common-law marriage," and appealed, "I want him to be properly punished to prevent future victimization."
