South Korea's record-breaking November snowfall causes worst damage to agricultural facilities since 2018

Snowfall across South Korea last month has caused the biggest agricultural damage since 2018. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, 359 agricultural facilities were destroyed by snowfall from the 26th to 28th of last month.
Damage amounted to 1000 hectares. This is the largest amount since 2018 (680 hectares), and is 249 hectares more than the 110 hectares recorded as of 10 p.m. on the 29th of last month.
By region, Gyeonggi Province suffered the most damage, with 260 hectares of agricultural facilities damaged, including 150 hectares of greenhouses, 73 hectares of ginseng cultivation facilities, and 18 hectares of livestock barns.
A total of 284,000 livestock were found to have died nationwide. On the same day, Vice Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Park Beom-soo visited a flower farm and a livestock farm in Eumseong County, North Chungcheong Province.
Vice Minister Park called on Chungbuk-do and Eumseong-gun to make swift restoration efforts and to improve disaster prevention measures for greenhouses, livestock sheds, orchards, etc. to prevent further damage from the heavy snowfall.
"We need to promptly carry out a first damage assessment survey of insured farmers within a week and encourage farmers to restore their greenhouses and livestock sheds and resume farming activities as soon as possible," Vice Minister Park said.
