Japanese woman sentenced to prison for stealing and using traveler's mobile phone and wallet at Incheon Airport (South Korea)

A Japanese woman in her 20s has been sentenced to prison for stealing and using Korean tourists' mobile phones, cards, etc. at Incheon International Airport in South Korea.
On the 1st, the Incheon District Court announced that it had sentenced a Japanese woman, A (21 years old, female), who was indicted on charges of theft and fraud, to six months in prison.
A stole 2.28 million won (approximately 244,000 yen) worth of mobile phones and wallets from three travelers at Incheon International Airport's Terminal 1 three times between September 6 and 15.
A was indicted on charges of stealing mobile phones that were charging at the mobile phone charging station in front of the check-in counter when a traveler left his seat, and of charging mobile phones while a traveler was sitting on a bench.
A was also indicted on charges of using the stolen credit card to make payments totaling 1.08 million won (approximately 116,000 yen) on 33 occasions at restaurants and other establishments in the airport.
A also used the stolen mobile phone to make payments on a hotel reservation website, spending 1.57 million won (approximately 168,000 yen) over nine transactions.
The court said, "Considering the number of crimes, the locations, and the amount of damage, the crime is not light," and "an agreement had been reached with the victims.
However, the court stated that it took into consideration the fact that "A acknowledged his mistake and was remorseful, and that the stolen items had been returned to the victims," as a reason for the sentence.
