After ”emergency martial law”: signs posted at Thai currency exchange offices saying ”South Korean won not accepted”
Claims have been made online that some Thai exchange offices are refusing to exchange South Korean won in the aftermath of President Yoon Seok-yeol's declaration of emergency martial law.
On the 5th, online communities such as FM Korea and The Q posted a post with the title "Some Thai exchange offices refuse to accept Korean won."
The author of the post shared a photo of a notice posted at a local Thai currency exchange office that read, "Korean won not accepted." The notice read in English, "Due to political issues within South Korea, we are temporarily not accepting Korean won.
"I think this is a clear example of how Thai people are accepting emergency martial law," the creator wrote.
However, he said, "Not all local money exchange offices are like this."
"If there is someone there, you can exchange it for cash (at another cash exchange office), so there is no need to worry," he added. Prior to this, President Yoon held an emergency press conference at around 10:30 pm on the 3rd and announced that the number of people in the country who have lost their ID cards will increase.
At 11:00 p.m., 30 minutes later, a proclamation was issued that included the prohibition of all political activities. However, at around 1:00 a.m. on the 4th, the National Assembly passed a proclamation with the approval of a majority of the members.
The Democratic Party passed a resolution calling for the lifting of martial law, and President Yoon also lifted the state of emergency at around 4:20 a.m., ending martial law six hours after it was declared.
