South Korea's Minister of Labor comments on President Yoon's declaration of martial law: ”President Yoon is facing such difficulties that he has had to declare martial law”

South Korean Labor Minister Kim Moon-soo said on the 5th that the country is facing such a difficult situation that President Yoon Seok-yeol should declare martial law. Kim said that the declaration of martial law is unconstitutional.
According to the South Korean Ministry of Labor, Minister Kim attended the "Youth Day to Open Tomorrow" event held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Seoul on the same day,
"We reached a consensus that it would be best for the Cabinet to submit its resignation when martial law was lifted, and so the entire Cabinet submitted its resignation at the same time," Kim added.
He also revealed that he was not contacted and was unable to attend the Cabinet meeting before the declaration of martial law, but attended the Cabinet meeting after it was declared.
While he said he was "hopeful" about the move, he stressed that "any method that disrupts the country's situation will never improve the welfare of workers."
That afternoon, Kim attended a "Labor Status Review Meeting" attended by key executives and local office directors at the Seoul Labor Bureau.
He attended the meeting to review the recent situation regarding strikes and rallies in the labor world and to discuss countermeasures. He expressed particular concern over the indefinite strike by the railroad workers' union and said, "We need to work together with the Korea Railroad Corporation to quickly resolve the issue."
I ask the Labor Bureau to do its utmost to support the Seoul Metropolitan Transportation Corporation so that the issue can be resolved through dialogue as soon as possible and so that the Seoul Metropolitan Transportation Corporation's labor and management can reach an agreement through negotiations today."
He added, "In the current severe economic and social conditions in our country, it is not good for workers to fight in a way that causes chaos in the labor world.
"In these difficult times, I want the labor world, which plays an important role in our economy and society, to show a responsible attitude," he said. Finally, Kim said, "The government must respect the legitimate and legitimate rights of labor unions.
"We will guarantee their exercise, but we will deal strictly with any illegal aspects in accordance with the law and principles."
