The five members of "NewJeans", Minzy, HYERI, HANI, Daniel, and Haein, announced on the 29th of last month that they had terminated their exclusive contract with Adoor.
The company then held an emergency press conference to announce that ADOR had breached its obligations under the exclusive contract and that it wanted to rectify this breach within the rectification period, and therefore the contract would be terminated.
Since the responsibility lies with ADOR and HYBE, NewJeans said that it will not file a separate application for a provisional injunction to suspend the exclusive contract, and that it is not obligated to pay any compensation for breach of contract.
However, ADOR made it clear that it would complete the remaining schedule as scheduled. ADOR ultimately went to court because it did not want the issue to be resolved through legal proceedings.
However, in the end, they filed a lawsuit for confirmation of the validity of the exclusive contract with the Seoul Central District Court in order to have it legally confirmed that the exclusive contract was still valid.
The industry is reacting in the same way as ADOR. The basic agreement of an exclusive contract is uncertain for a long time if it is not respected.
The Korea Management Union and the Korea Entertainment Producers Association said that the company's efforts to provide early support in the form of investment while enduring the reality of the situation are not being compensated for anywhere.
They issued a statement urging NewJeans to retract its existing position and engage in dialogue with the group. They said, "The escalating conflict is having a negative impact on our pop culture and arts industry.
"If anyone can terminate a contract simply by making a declaration, how can the effectiveness of an exclusive contract be guaranteed? Who can invest in such an uncertain contract?
Nevertheless, NewJeans issued a statement on the 6th in relation to ADOR's lawsuit, expressing regret and saying, "We will not be able to sell our products until November 2024.
"As of the 29th, I am no longer affiliated with ADOR. ADOR cannot interfere or intervene in our activities," he reiterated. "In public, we will continue to try to engage in dialogue and reconciliation.
"When we came across media articles that announced that they would take action against us, but then followed us around and maliciously attacked us and spread false information, we could not help but feel fear and disgust," he said.
On the 6th, former CEO Min appeared at the Hanwha Insurance Xpole talk concert "Women Who Became Genres" and gave her first speech since leaving ADOR.
"NewJeans" has also been active independently, such as holding photo events, and people are paying close attention to how it will turn out in the future.
